Snapchat is launching a new supervision tool that will mimic how parents and teenagers interact in real world. The newly introduced Family Center hub allows parents as well as guardians to keep tabs on who their children message with on the app without disclosing what they are saying to each other. Both the child and guardian need to accept the Family Center invite before oversight tool can take effect. Once invitation is accepted, a guardian can see the list of their child’s friends and list of the accounts that they have interacted with over last week.
The developers at Snapchat said that their goal was to create a set of tools designed to reflect the dynamics of real-world relationships and foster collaboration as well as trust between the teens and parents. The feature is meant to copy real-life relationships like when a parent allows a kid’s friends come over but does not monitor everything which they say.
