Elon Musk’s xAI Reveals Grok – A New AI System with a Rebellious Streak

November 6, 2023 by Emily

Elon Musk

Elon Musk’s company xAI is making its own version of ChatGPT. It seems like they’ve been working on an AI system called Grok, which can chat and answer questions like ChatGPT does. Grok can look up information online and has access to the latest info from xAI. It’s designed to have some humor in its responses and is careful not to answer inappropriate questions. Musk announced that a select group would get access to Grok, and later, all subscribers to xAI’s Premium Plus plan would have access too.

xAI hasn’t shared much about their research, but they recently published a blog post about Grok. They trained the model over several months using a lot of computer power and data from the internet. According to xAI, Grok is better than other similar models and has a bit of a rebellious side, answering some spicy questions that other AI systems avoid.

Musk’s goal with xAI is to build AI that can understand the universe better. The company is led by Musk and experts from different tech companies and universities. They plan to equip Grok with other abilities, like seeing and hearing, to help users even more. Musk had some disagreements with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and left its board in 2018. He also stopped giving them access to xAI’s data.

TikTok’s New Deal with DistroKid Empowers Independent Artists Worldwide

November 3, 2023 by Emily

TikTok

A new deal between TikTok and music service DistroKid means more musicians can now share their music on TikTok Music. It’s a streaming service where people pay to listen to music. The deal will allow musicians to host their songs on a video editing app called CapCut, which has about 490 million users on iPhone and Android devices.

Big music companies like Universal Music Group and Sony Music already use TikTok Music, and now DistroKid too. DistroKid CEO Philip Kaplan says TikTok is a great place for people to discover new music. This new offering means more musicians will be able to share their music in more places, and as TikTok music becomes available in more countries, more people will be able to hear it. DistroKid started working with TikTok in 2019 to help new artists get their music on the app. With DistroKid, you pay when your TikTok video includes music. DistroKid forwards all monies to the artist, excluding fees and bank charges. They didn’t say exactly how much money TikTok artists made.

DistroKid also helps musicians sell their songs on many other apps like Spotify and Apple Music. Their music is now also available in TikTok’s commercial music library, which brands can use in their ads. This library was previously only available to select artists, but is now available to all DistroKid artists. Many musicians use DistroKid because it helps their music in many ways. Recently, DistroKid has a website builder called Bandzoogle that allows musicians to sell their albums online. The new partnership between TikTok and DistroKid comes shortly after TikTok partnered with Tickets.com to sell tickets to music events.

Facebook and Instagram Unveil Ad-Free Subscriptions in Europe

Facebook and Instagram are coming up with the subscription plans that will wipe out the ads from their platforms in majority of the European countries. The users of Meta platform can pay €9.99 per month for ad-free experience.

In the month of January, Meta platform was fined €390m for breaking the EU rules on advertising data. Regulators have said that at the time the company could not honor the agreement and need to either accept how its customers’ data would be used or leave the platform. From the month of November, the subscription level will be applied to European users, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Initially it will be available only to over-18s and company is investigating how to show the advertisements to the younger generation in Europe without breaking the rules.

“The ability for people to purchase ad-free subscriptions balances the requirements of European regulators while giving users choice and allowing Meta to continue serving everyone in the EU, EEA and Switzerland. “We respect the spirit and intent of evolving European regulations and are committed to complying with them.”

Users will be given the option to continue by using the platform for free and collect their data or pay the fee to avoid the advertisements completely. However, you can avoid these extra costs by paying through the Facebook and Instagram sites instead of the mobile app. Additionally, from March 2024, users will have to pay more for each additional account they have on the platform, including business and personal accounts. The announcement comes after Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) introduced a premium ad-free service for £16 a month. There are also much cheaper subscription tiers. TikTok is also testing a monthly subscription ($4.99) to remove ads, but there’s no indication yet that it will roll out globally

Meta’s Platforms Facilitate 600 Million Daily Chats for Users and Businesses

October 31, 2023 by Emily

Meta

Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s Q3 2023 earnings call that Meta is doubling down on its messaging business to generate revenue. Zuckerberg said the company wants to introduce generative AI-based bots into the enterprise for use cases such as customer support. According to Meta’s CEO, users and businesses interact more than 600 million times a day on the platform. This is the first time Meta has shared these numbers in an earnings call. It does not specify how many marketing or informational messages you will receive, such as from companies sending ticket information or order updates.

But Zuckerberg pointed out that more than 60 percent of WhatsApp users in India, the chat app’s biggest market with more than 500 million users, send messages from their business app accounts. It is worth noting that many sole business owners use a WhatsApp Business account, which gives them access to features such as company pages, product catalogs and messaging. Social media giants have several ways to monetize business messages. WhatsApp identifies different types of messages and charges the company based on chat sessions. It also offers click-to-message and click-through ads for WhatsApp. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg said that this type of advertising has reached $10 billion in annual revenue and is growing.

In recent months, WhatsApp has announced business products such as WhatsApp Streams and personalized messages sent to customers to improve the in-app purchasing experience. In September last year, the company announced plans for a verification system for WhatsApp with features like support for 10 devices connected to a personal account, support for custom web pages and more, which makes it easier to handle customer queries. Meta also wants to use generative AI to answer customer questions about business account purchases and support. “Now I think this is going to be a huge opportunity for the new business AI that I was talking about earlier, which will allow any company to create AI that people can send to help with commerce and support,” Zuckerberg said. . During the conversation.

Zuckerberg’s argument is that companies in some markets, such as Thailand and Vietnam, have less labor and can afford to respond to customers manually. However, other markets can use Meta’s AI trading bots. The growth and availability of generative AI models has led several AI-based customer support startups to launch products and attract the attention of investors and potential buyers.

Instagram Verified users

Instagram is experimenting the new feed that will show the post from certain users who are Meta Verified and legacy verified. This option will be available right beneath the Following and Favorites sections when you tap Instagram logo on the app. According to a post from the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri that they are testing this feature to let the users explore their Instagram feed as well as reels specifically from Meta Verified accounts.

This update comes after Instagram denied testing the feature initially despite tech expert finding the evidence of it in the code of the app. With the new feed, Instagram is looking to promote Meta Verified subscriptions and encourage more people for signing up. The Meta Verified service costs $11.99 per month on web and $14.99 per month on mobile provides the users a blue checkmark, better customer support and more engagement in searches as well as comments.

The step is taken after being influenced by Elon Musk’s approach with his verified-only feed and Meta Verified service. For just $8 in a month, subscribers can access loads of features like Verified tab in Notifications, support for longer posts and an edit button.

Meta's Threads Tutorial forum

Meta is continuously adding new and cool features to Threads and aiming to increase the user engagement. The latest one is displaying the Threads posts on Facebook as some of the users have noticed including the social media expert Matt Navarra. There is a carousel titled ‘For You on Threads’ is visible on Blue app in past day.

Similar tactic has been introduced for the Instagram users in August and Meta has yet to reveal whether this move has any impact on Threads’ engagement or not. A representative of Meta has mentioned that they are incorporating some new features into the app and facilitate easy access to latest content from Threads directly on Facebook. Just recently, Threads introduced an edit button and streamlined the process of switching between the accounts.

The platform often draws comparisons to X’s offerings which needs $8 monthly fee for premium subscription with some added benefits like the edit button. Recently, X began experimenting with charging a $1 annual fee for new accounts in certain regions to combat spam and bots.

Threads offers its features for free, but there are limitations. Not all news sources post the latest news on Threads, so it can be difficult to keep up with news on the platform. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri emphasized that the social network does not prioritize news content. Mosseri also announced that search blocks related to “Covid” and similar terms will be removed.
