In 2020, WhatsApp introduced the Pay feature which allowed the users in India and Brazil to send and receive money with friends and family. This feature integrates with the country’s payment system but it has not made its way to all the markets. WhatsApp is now looking to expand the cash transactions into other countries which include USA.
According to some reports a digital system that is owned by Meta is preparing for the launch within WhatsApp. At the moment the service lets its users in the USA and Guatemala to send payments using a stable cryptocurrency called Pax Dollar that has its value paired with US dollar. It will serve as a competitor to apps like Cash App and Venmo and now functions as Meta’s payment platform following its recent rebrand.
